Cheers to the New Year | MadameAkay

Hey Gems!

Welcome to 2019! 🥂

I know I know, we are almost done with January but I’m just coming back from Nigeria and adjusting back into the swing of things.

I’m super excited to bring in this new year with a bang! Secured my first sponsored post via a fashion retailer. Check me out here! I’m learning more and more about my audience. That’s you reading this! I want to continue bringing true and authentic content to my readers all 2019!

Christmas and New Years Day was spent in Nigeria! I loved seeing family that I didn’t get a chance to see last time I was around and also meeting new family members. I’m still in awe from the trip. Like Gems, it was the perfect trip. I’ve never been to Nigeria during the December festive period and I have to say it was truly festive. It felt like everyday was a cause for celebration.

L-R: Mom, Aunt Meech, Dad

Majority of my trip was spent in the Eastern part of Nigeria. Both of my parents are from a town called Awka which is located in Anambra state. I spent a small fraction of the trip in Lagos, but most of the fun was in the East.

Maternal First Cousins

Quality family time brought joy to my spirit. I felt very comfortable knowing that I was with family. It’s crazy how we would be driving down the street and would see about 2-3 people we knew zooming past us. Awka is where everyone travels to so they can ‘catch their fun’.

Dioka Day

I got to attend Dioka Day, which is a cultural festival in the Umudioka village at the Ndi Ichie hall. All age grades would come out to show off iron work, masquerades, ogene drums, matching attire etc. during the festival. Per usual, the masquerades terrified me at first but after sticking to my mothers side I calmed down.

Time to Say Goodbye

It was so hard to leave Nigeria for many reasons. These pictures doesn’t do it justice. Nigeria was so much fun now that I’m an adult. As I told myself last time, I will be back! I can’t allow 10 many years to pass me by before I go visit again. I love my country! Igbo Kwenu!
