Holiday Gift Guide: Beauty Lover Edition

Hey Gems!

The holidays are quickly approaching, and if you’re like me, you probably already have a list of gift ideas to get. For those that don’t quite know what to get their beauty enthusiast family or friends, keep reading to learn how easy it will be to purchase gifts for the beauty enthusiast in your life. I hope this holiday gift guide will bring joy to the beauty lover in your life!

Lancôme does it right when it comes to full-coverage foundations. I recently came across teint idole ultra wear foundation because there are nights where I would need a more long-wearing foundation. Since this foundation is full-coverage, it doesn’t feel heavy on the face. Instead, it leaves a smooth later finish. When paired with the concealer, Gems, it’s perfect. When brands release a foundation and then a concealer, I feel it works best when paired together. This combo does just that. Partnered with skin prep, this foundation and concealer duo is sure to last you hours through your day.

Moving on to the eyes department – I love an excellent natural-looking lash strip. It’s not everyday wear 25mm lashes. This lash design is natural with a bit of razzle-dazzle. Pair this lash with the dark-toned DUO lash glue, and it is sure to last and won’t leave you hanging. A trick I learned from YouTube University was to draw a line of lash glue on your eyelid where you plan to put the strip lash and put a line on the lash itself. This double layer will keep your lashes from falling off.

I love a perfect neutral-toned eyeshadow palette. I always pick this palette up when I’m doing a simple eyeshadow look. You can create eye-popping looks, and if you want to keep it simple, you can with this palette.

I know you didn’t think I would leave you hanging on what brushes to apply these products. This brush set has the right tools to apply your foundation, eyeshadow, eyebrows, concealer, highlight, contour, and more!

Check out this video where I used the foundation, concealer, eyeshadow, and lash glue mentioned in this post.

I hope you liked the products I shared with you. All products were purchased with my money, and no affiliate links were used.

Simple Daytime Look | MadameAkay

Hey Gems!

Sorry for the wait! Life can really have one not in the mood to do anything but rest. For the past two weeks, I really wasn’t in the mood to record, edit or even post any videos or posting on my site. Now that I’m out of that funk, I have to bless you all with another makeup tutorial on how I achieved the makeup look from my Ulta & Sephora HAUL video. Hope you enjoy it!

Sebum No More! | MadameAkay

Hey Gems!

Hope you all are caught up on all my previous posts, if not, get to it! Please 🙂 I’ve been stressed so badly at work that it’s starting to show on my face. I mean I would wake up to a new pimple craters. Not sure who invited them to the party, but they had to go! I would literally walk around work looking like I put too much baby oil on my forehead by mid-day. I don’t even own baby oil! Argh! Why me, I thought I had a down packed skin care routine that hadn’t failed me, till now. I thought I needed to just continue using the same products, but maybe I needed to scrub a little bit hard and pay attention more to my forehead and my cheeks, but I still saw no difference.

Research

I went on a hunt to understand which products could work for my skin and decided to introduce 3 new products! When I say these products are game changers, why hadn’t I thought of using them in the first place? Low-key, I think one of my friends uses this wash and I never thought to ask her what she though to if.

New Face Wash

I replaced my Neutrogena 3-in-1 Acne wash with Trader Joe’s Spa Face Wash with Tea Tree Oil. The first ingredient in the list is Castile soap which is also something I use on my natural hair when I want a deeper shampoo. The Castile soap really helps rid my skin of the sebum (oil) that built up over the night. The addition of tea tree oil helps as an antiseptic, germicidal, antibacterial and antifungal oil. Literally, a pimple is excess sebum (oil) and dead skin cells trapped under the skin. I’ve noticed my sebum is gradually slowing down its production. Thank God!

New Acne Cleanser

Every other night I alternate between my Mario Badescu Glycolic Acid Cleanser and this new product I picked up, Clean & Clear Continuous Control Acne Cleanser w/10% benzoyl peroxide. I’m not sure if I love this new product just yet because it doesn’t make my skin feel slick and clean rather it feels like I still have product left on my face.

New Serum

The last item on my list is the Mario Badescu Vitamin C Serum, I got this product because it was on sale at Ulta for half the price, score! It’s supposed to brighten uneven skin tone which I have around my mouth area and from the pimple scars from when I knew no better. I only use this serum every other night right before I apply moisturizer.

Morning Facial Routine

  • Allow steam from shower to open my pores
  • Drench skin with warm-ish water to further open pores
  • Trader Joe’s Spa Face wash with Tea Tree Oil with a Foreo
  • Soak a cotton round with Thayers Witch Hazel with Rose water to tone face
  • Caudalie Vinosource Moisturizing Mattifying Fluid

Nighttime Facial Routine

  • Cleanse face with Thayers Witch Hazel with Rose water
  • Drench skin with warm-ish water to open pores
  • Clean & Clear Continuous Control Acne Cleanser 10% benzoyl peroxide with a Foreo
  • Soak a cotton round with Thayers Witch Hazel with Rose water to tone face
  • Mario Badescu Vitamin C Serum (every other day)
  • Caudalie Overnight renewal cream

I hope this helps you all with figuring out what works for your skin, if you have similar skin to me.

Jaclyn Hill You Did That, Girl! | MadameAkay

Hey Gems,

If you know, you know! This highly anticipated Vault release did not disappoint at all. Most importantly, I was able to get my hands on the entire collection. I was literally checking my email for updates from Morphe on the shipment of my order, but it never came. After a week of waiting I decided to log back into their site to check the status of my order. My package was being delivered the next day and I couldn’t be happier! I understand Morphe may have gotten an influx of orders due to this launch but I’m a firm believer in good customer service. I’m proud of the quality in each palette, but I don’t want to give too much away so tune into this video to learn more!

Protection First | Kinky Wednesday | MadameAkay

Hey Gems,

If you are new to my blog, I am doing a series where I share all things related to my 4C kinky hair. Every Wednesday I will drop a new post related to my 4C crown, leave a comment below I want this to be interactive! This is now the fourth post in the series and I hope you all have been enjoying this series so far!

I think it’s important to give your natural hair some rest in between styles as well as from your hands. Protective styles are styles that protect the ends of your hair. This helps its health and from breakage. One of the challenges I face is single strand knots, split ends, and breakage. Including a protective style here and there really helps me to keep my hands out of my head. Ladies, protection first!

Below are a couple protective styles that I have either tried or would like to try.

Wigs of Life – My go to Protective style

Faux Bun – I nearly put my natural hair into a bun and using Marley hair I create an even bigger bun

Okay this isn’t really a protective style, but one time for the culture! 🇳🇬

More braids, braids come in varying lengths and sizes.

I really enjoy experimenting with protective styles, one of the latest trends is crochet hair which I haven’t gotten into just yet, but it’s definitely on my radar. Hope you enjoyed this post and it gave you inspiration for your next protective style!

Brand Space | Kinky Wednesday | MadameAkay

Hey Gems,

If you are new to my blog, I am doing a series where I share all things related to my 4C kinky hair. Every Wednesday I will drop a new post related to my 4C crown, leave a comment below I want this to be interactive!

So last week I shared with you all my wash day routine. This week I wanted to focus in on the brands I chose and what my favorite products are.

1. De La Cruz – Sweet Almond Oil
I had no honest reason for choosing this brand other than it was in the herbal section at Kroger and I was on a hunt for almond oil that wasn’t at the beauty supply store. Yes, I know I could have gone to Whole Foods and looked in their natural section but I’m a bit frugal. Plus, if I fell in love with the product I didn’t want to spend over $10 for 2 oz of product. This oil smells soo good yall, must be why it’s labeled sweet! It doesn’t have that bland boring smell like olive oil and its one of the lighter oils I use for my pre-poo step.

Benefits:
– Nourishes and Strengthens Hair
– Keeps hair from splitting
– Promotes hair growth

2. Organix – Renewing Argan Oil & Morocco Extra Penetrating Oil
I discovered this product in college and I haven’t let it go since. This is another oil that is light and has a sweet scent to it. I use this all the time after I wash my weaves too. It helps with all the stubborn flyaways I may have in my wefts. Ladies, oil your hair and scalp but don’t over do it.

Argan Oil Benefits
– Hair growth
– Tame frizz and fly-aways
– Hair Glow: Yes your hair needs to shine bright!

3. Design Essentials Natural – Coconut Milk Leave – In Nourisher
I swear I talk about this brand too much, they should start paying me for my reviews! Hello! I fell in love with this brand when my hair stylist introduced me to it. Hey girl! This particular brands philosophy is “improving the look and feel of your hair by providing healthy hair styling products that address and satisfy your specific hair needs”. There is honestly nothing more I need to say on this because this brand has a vast amount of products that I have and use and more that I want to try out. This particular leave-in product will run you about $12.99 but if it works for your hair why not.

4. Creme of Nature with Argan Oil from Morocco Argan Buttermilk
Do you all notice my overall theme when it comes to products? This is the second product that contains argan oil. I mentioned in my last post this is the cream that I use in my LOC/LCO method. It smells good and this is a staple product in my collection. I have a number of Creme of Nature products in my product cart including their moisturizing milk masque, intensive conditioning treatment, and strength and shine leave in-conditioner.

5. Cantu Shea Butter for Natural Hair – Deep Treatment Masque
I mentioned above I use Creme of Natures intensive conditioning treatment but this product above by Cantu Shea Butter is right there in the running for first place. My hair comes out very soft and smells amazing. I have a thing for smell goods and this includes my hair. The Cantu brand is a very affordable brand that I started out with when I went back to my natural state and I see it staying for while. Other great products from this brand is their conditioning co-wash and shampoo/conditioner duo. I love love love Cantu!
